With over 30 years' experience in public safety and homeland security, Russ Johnson currently advises senior public safety and national security officials on the use of location intelligence to support critical missions. Russ helped pioneer the development of standards for the United States in the use of spatial technology for incident management. He was involved in the clean-up mission following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil rig explosion which caused 4.9 million barrels of oil to leak into the ocean. Russ managed the recovery mission's tech support, delivering real-time data updates and using mapping imagery to show affected areas.  Formerly the Chief of Fire and Emergency Operations for Federal Lands in San Bernardino and Type 1 National Incident Commander, Russ supervised a complex interagency dispatch centre including five field division chiefs.
