- I'm new to GIS, where do I start?
If you're just getting started with GIS, we recommend Introduction to GIS using ArcGIS. It's our most popular course for those who just getting started with the technology.
Alternatively, you can contact one of our training consultants to discuss the best pathway for you.
- What training products and learning options are available?
Esri Australia offers many training products and learning options, including scheduled courses, client-exclusive training, knowledge transfers and eLearning.
- What are Learning and Services Units?
Learning and Services Units provide you with a flexible way to pre-purchase GIS training and professional services to use throughout the year. It removes the need to obtain financial approval every time you want to train – reducing your organisation’s budget approval overheads and other administration costs. Purchasing an annual allocation of LSUs in a single transaction allows you to move on to work with the Esri Australia Training team to map out your unique learning pathway.
- I have completed a training course. What's my next step?
There are many course pathways you can pursue. The main topics are geodatabases, web application development, server, and visualisation, and editing and analysis. Learn more about the range of courses available.
- I have been using another GIS vendor’s software for a while. What course should I take to get started with ArcGIS?
If you are migrating from a third-party GIS desktop application, we recommend ArcGIS Pro: Essential Workflows. This course focuses on Esri's flagship desktop application, ArcGIS Pro.

- There are no available dates for the course I wish to attend, where can I find more information?
Please submit an online enquiry to let us know you are interested in a course, and we will respond to your message.
- If my colleagues all want to do the same course, can we have a group training session at our workplace?
Yes. Please contact us for information about holding a training course on your premises. We highly recommend this option for groups as it's an easy and cost effective way to run training events.
- When do I receive course details?
After you register, you should receive an email with booking details. This email can go to junk, so please save the date. You will receive more course information one to two weeks before the event.
- What time do the courses start?
Courses start at 9am AEST and generally finish at 4:30pm each day.
- Are there course discounts?
Attendees from Non-Profit Organisations (NPO), schools or Higher Education Institutions may qualify for a discount. Please submit an inquiry, and we'll be in touch.
- Are there formal certification pathways we can take?
Yes, there are! Please get in touch with us to learn which Esri Certification pathways are best for you and your Team.
- When will I hear from my instructor?
Once you have received confirmation, our instructors will contact you, typically within two weeks before the course start date. Please get in touch with us if you are still waiting to hear from your instructor by three days before your course commences.
- Can we still undertake training in ArcMap?
No, ArcMap training is no longer available. Since ArcMap is now in mature support, Esri no longer offers Arc1 and Arc2 courses. We recommend migrating to ArcGIS Pro as soon as possible to stay up to date. Please get in touch for more information or if you need help with this transition.
- How is your training delivered?
Training is primarily delivered virtually via Microsoft Teams. For your convenience, we provide virtual machines (VMs) with all the necessary software and training data preconfigured. The only thing you’ll need to download is the student manual.
- How should I prepare for my training?
Before the course begins, your instructor will get in touch with a few recommendations:
- Set up a good learning environment.
- Use two monitors if possible,
- Make sure you have a working headset and microphone,
- Test your connection on the device and in the environment, you’ll be using for the course.
- Download the student manual. All course data and software will be provided through virtual machines we deploy for the duration of your course.
- For in-person training, you’ll still use a virtual machine and be required to download student manual.
- Make sure you arrive on time, whether your training is online, at the office, or at an event venue.
All of this helps ensure you have a smooth and productive training experience.
- Set up a good learning environment.
- I need to change the session I am enrolled in; can I do that, and how?
Yes, enrolment changes can be made, with a caveat; cancellations and changes cannot be made to enrolments within ten days of a course commencing. Upon learning that you need to change your enrolment details, please contact us as soon as possible.
- Are there prerequisites for some courses?
Yes. Please see the course overview information. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
- After completing a course, do I get a certificate?
Yes! If you have yet to receive your certificate within six weeks from course completion, please contact your instructor, who will follow up.
- Will I get any take-home resources?
Yes. Our instructors will send you a debrief email after the training with tailored resources to keep you busy! You can also retain the student manual.
