Thuong Tran
Esri Young Scholar Award 2025 Winner
Monash University , Melbourne
Thuong Tran is a PhD candidate in the School of Earth, Atmosphere, and Environment at Monash University. His work research focuses on remote sensing, geospatial science, and Earth observation to understand environmental change in coastal and terrestrial ecosystems. He specialises in integrating multi-sensor satellite data, including Landsat, Sentinel, and SAR, with advanced spatial analytics and machine learning to monitor vegetation dynamics, shoreline change, and land surface processes.
His work contributes to advancing long-term monitoring of mangrove ecosystems, coastal sustainability, and climate-driven landscape change. His research aims to support evidence-based environmental management and climate adaptation through innovative geospatial technologies and Earth observation data.
Thuong’s project, Long-term Changes in Mangrove Distribution and Its Response to Anthropogenic Impacts, explores critical environmental changes and their relationship with human activities. This project made him the 2025 Esri Young Scholar Award Winner.
