Rail freight manager Arc Infrastructure and software developer IDD Tech have been recognised for their Situational Awareness Platform and 4D immersive construction management apps respectively, at the global Esri User Conference, which hosts more than 100,000 delegates world-wide.
The apps, powered by location analytics, provide immersive and near real-time updates on the movement of goods and materials critical to Australia’s economy.
Arc Infrastructure is manager of the freight rail network in the South West of Western Australia. They are responsible for managing over 5,500 kilometres of rail network across the State, spanning urban, rural and remote areas.
Esri Australia has been supporting Arc with the development and implementation of the Situational Awareness Platform which was recognised at yesterday’s award ceremony.
Situational Awareness was developed to address multiple business issues, including providing more insights than ever before on the movements of vehicles through their network. Arc is the first rail industry organisation Esri Australia has worked with, to use GIS technology in this way.
The platform has elevated the availability of data bringing it together in a single easy to use platform which can be accessed by anyone at Arc.
Implementing one centralised platform to visualise “a day of operations” has assisted Arc Infrastructure to embed the use of GIS technology as a data source for all employees.
Chief Executive Officer Murray Cook said he was proud of the team’s hard work to translate the concept into a platform which is widely used at Arc.
“The Situational Awareness platform provides easy access to critical information, separate from our safe working procedures, in a way that optimises efficiency of our operations,” Mr Cook said.
“The development of the platform, shows our focus on embracing and using new technologies to solve business issues through innovation.”
“Congratulations to all the team for this recognition of their hard work, and fantastic to see them be present for the Esri Users Conference enabling them to collect the award in-person.”
IDD Tech, a member of the CIMIC Group, is advancing digital transformation in the engineering, design and construction sector.
The Sydney-based organisation won a SAG Award for its ToBe Builder planning and collaboration tool.
ToBe Builder brings data from design, planning and delivery into a common environment where planners, surveyors and digital and structural engineers produce robust, constructable, and synchronised plans before deploying to site.
Esri Australia Managing Director Brett Bundock said the major programs of work highlight how GIS technology supports continuous digital transformations, while using a data-driven approach.
“The versatility of Geographic Information Systems technology has been highlighted by these award-winning projects and demonstrates the solid foundation that location analytics brings to project managers and business leaders in the private sector,” Mr Bundock said.
